I had the best time at my photoshoot, and Will made me feel so confident and beautiful, like every picture would be gorgeous. I love how good I looked in my pictures, happy, as if I was just hanging out with my friends. I think I glowed!!

The most important thing about senior pictures is that you love the way you look in them!
Our specialty at Focus Photography is making you look your best. Our photographer, Will Wenzel, knows how to use soft-lighting and fashion posing to bring out your best features.

Your Photoshoot will be fun!
This isn't another year of school pictures, dance photos, or cheesy 'smile for the camera' moments.
My photoshoot felt like I was being featured in Vogue magazine, with the fans blowing my hair, and the high-fashion lighting. It was a blast. And my brother's images looked like he was in Sports Illustrated!

And you'll have fun while we're creating great images. Will even knows how to make the most camera-shy or nervous person feel relaxed while they're being photographed.
Your Pictures will be as unique as you are!
You get the most image variety when you come to Focus Photography. Your portraits will reflect you, and your personality. Most studios do the same set of images for each senior. Not us - that's boring!
At Focus, you'll choose from an amazing variety of images, and your pictures won't look like anyone else's! We didn't become the top senior studio in Maine by being mundane - we did it by being original.
If you want pictures that our contemporary and creative, instead of looking like your grandmother's yearbook, you've got to come to Focus Photography!

The place in Maine for Cool senior pictures! |
Aren't you worth better than Good Enough?
Sometimes we ask the friends that come along with our senior clients where they're getting their senior portraits done, and we sometimes hear things like this:
“My mom is gonna take my senior pics”,
or “My friend is going take my yearbook pic - she takes really good Facebook pictures”,
or even, “My mom’s friend is doing my senior pics - she's got a brand new camera”…
Sometimes people think it's the camera that takes the pictures, so as long as someone owns a camera, they must be a photographer. Maybe there's a kid in school who could take them, or a teacher earning money on the side. What’s wrong with that?
Nothing really—if you’re happy with your senior portraits, that’s all that matters. But substitute the words “senior pictures” for some other things, and consider how happy you'd be:
“My mom mom is making my prom dress”,
or “My friend is going to cut my hair for the prom- he really knows how to use a scissors”,
or even, “My mom’s friend is going to remove my appendix - she's got a brand new scalpel!”…
You know that Senior Portraits aren’t just another grab shot with a cell phone. Sure, maybe your friend can put a sheet around your neck and give you a haircut, but does that compare to a visit to a nice salon — or maybe even a day-spa — with the extra attention and special treatment you get? (Not to mention the quality of the haircut!)
Listen, we're not calling you ghetto if your mom takes your picture, but we guarantee you won't like the image nearly as much as if you come to Focus and get dozens of rocking good images to choose from.
It might be 'good enough' if someone you know does your pictures, but honestly, don't you deserve better than 'good enough?'
You've had eleven years of school, dance, and team photos where someone who doesn't know how to make you look your best told you to stand on some tape, said their stupid joke, and then clicked a shutter and shouted 'next'.
After all that, when it's time for the most important pictures of your life, aren't you ready for a professional photoshoot? Sure, your senior portrait will go in the yearbook you'll keep forever, but that's not the only place it goes. Your picture will hang in your parents' living room for all time (assuming they love you), go to all of the colleges you apply to, hang in all your friends' lockers, go out with your graduation announcements, and be on Facebook for all eternity!
Whew, no pressure, it's just how people will remember you for the rest of your life. You can practice your excuses ("My dad really wanted to buy a new camera, and he didn't think I'd care...") or you can practice your gracious responses ("Thank you, but no, I'm not a professional model....No, I can't fly to Hollywood for a screen test - I've got mid-terms next week....What do you mean you want five more wallets of me because all your friends want my picture in their locker too?")
It's your choice, but we think you're worth the very best. And if you ask your parents, even though dad really wants an excuse to buy a new camera, they'll say you're worth the very best too.

I'm so glad I came to Focus! I actually went to another photography studio first, and I hated my pictures. I felt bad telling my mom not to get any of them, but I would have been embarrassed to have anyone see them.
Then she found you.
You guaranteed I'd love my pictures, and I love them all. But it was the experience I'll remember most. Will put me at ease the moment I met him. He asked me about the images I wanted to create, talked about things I cared about, and played music I liked. I laughed, smiled naturally, looked cool in my yearbook picture, and I'm proud of the images my parents chose.

It's not just our images, products, and photoshoots that are different from every other photographer.
It's everything about Focus. When we opened our doors in 2005, we set out to be the most creative and unique Senior studio in New England. Here are a few of the reasons why we've succeeded.
We don't take school pictures - We create unique portraits of extraordinary individuals.
We're not just people with nice cameras - We've spent years becoming the best in our craft. We do use really nice cameras, but they don't create the images - they're just tools. Will photographed thousands of actors and models in Los Angeles before returning to Maine, and his unique senior style comes from these years of experience.
We're not photographing you in our garage - We've got a hip studio in Portland's Old Port where it's fun to be photographed. There are actually some people who call themselves photographers who don't even have a garage - they're aspiring to someday work out of their garage - and they work out of their car. Wherever you can meet them. We wouldn't buy jewelry from a van down by the river, and we don't recommend teenage students go to such a van to be photographed. But let's talk about us!
We're located on Commercial Street in downtown Portland, and our studio has plenty of free parking! When you come for the premiere of your images you'll be in our private screening room, basking in glory as your family and friends admire the portraits from your photoshoot.
We're not going to let you look like a dork in any of your pictures - We've built our reputation on making seniors look great in their images.
If you don't look good, we don't look good, so we're not going to let that happen. From free retouching and image enhancements, to our clothing and posing suggestions, everything we do ensures you'll look your best!
You're not going to feel shy or embarrassed being photographed - You're going to love your photoshoot with Will.
You might actually feel embarrassed for Will, but you'll probably cut him some slack for looking so ridiculous as demonstrates how he wants you to sit, stand, or flip your hair. Most people spend a lot of time laughing during their sessions, and our clients tell us they really enjoyed being photographed.
You were very friendly and made the photo sessions relaxed and comfortable, while still making progress. I told my friends the sessions were a blast, and not at all terrifying as i thought it might be. Will made me laugh a lot which helped take the pressure off trying to look good for the camera, something I was wicked nervous about!

What it's like to come to Focus
My senior session with Will was something I will always remember. I was nervous coming into the shoot, but the way that Will talked to me to get to know me beforehand made me feel completely comfortable around him. I felt like a rockstar while posing for pictures and I felt like I had known Will forever. Will worked with me to make my pictures come out amazing and you can tell by looking at the photos, that I had a blast during this session.

My session with Will was fun. There are some photographers that are awkward, but Will really knows how to talk to people. I was expecting the shoot to be quiet, but between the music and Will's fun interjections and advice, I found myself laughing and enjoying the entire shoot.
In my pictures, I look gorgeous! I was very happy with the variety I had to choose from. I had silly pictures, serious pictures, and pictures showing me enjoying the things I love. My images have more personality than my friends'!
The viewing experience was fun for me. It was really hard choosing between the images, because they were all so good! Every member of the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgable.

Thanks for everything! I was absolutely hating the idea of getting my photos done, but things came out perfectly - better than I could have hoped for.

My session with Will was incredible. He made me feel as if I were a movie star! He also made it a fun experience and had a great personality that made you laugh and be yourself. I told my friends how fun it was, and then I got 100% bragging rights when it came to our pictures. Mine were by far the best!
The photoshoot flew by - I wish I could had three sessions on three different days so I could have kept feeling so beautiful.

I wouldn't change anything about my photoshoot except to have more clothes! I felt so confident and completely comfortable with the setting and who was taking the photographs. My session was personalized, and my images showed the me I wanted people to see.

My pictures are really well done, and they capture a lot of different sides and emotions. My session was fun and easy (this is coming from someone who dreaded doing it in the first place).
I want to thank you for making it easy for me. I don't like being photographed, I didn't want a headshot, I didn't want to look at pictures of myself. But I love the posters we did with all my guitars, and I'm really glad I came.

My session was completely laid back and unrushed. I felt like I was their only client for the day, and we could do whatever we could think of - even posing on an 18-wheeler! I'd never felt more beautiful or relaxed.

I enjoyed my sessions with Will - they went by fast, and they were easy-going. Fun. We covered lots of ground during the downtown session, and passing by random places got me some of the best pictures.

Will made me very comfortable, usually I'm very self-conscious around cameras. He was also very friendly, and he knew exactly how to make me look natural. He made it fun!
I would tell any Junior to go to Focus. Don't be nervous about how your pictures will come out - just go and be yourself. Will takes care of the rest! Half way through the session you forget he's taking pictures. It's a lot of fun!

You can afford the very best!
If you’ve looked at this much of the website, chances are that you’ve already started imagining that your senior photoshoot could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, that it would be awesome to have portraits that you’re proud of, and that it wouldn’t be all bad if people looked at you with a little more respect and admiration.
Here’s the good news: You can afford to come to Focus Photography!
Let’s talk a little about the numbers. Technically, we don’t have any minimum purchase amounts or required orders, so you could just pay for your photoshoot and your yearbook submission, but most people want pictures to send to their family, wallets to give out at school, something for the house, and maybe something special for themselves. With all the gift prints, wallets, photo books, graduation cards, and the other great stuff we offer, we can't tell you exactly what you're going to want, but we can give you some ranges.
Boys’ families typically spend about 400-600 dollars, girls’ families about 400-800.
For some of the clients we work with, this is the tab for a dinner at Morton’s, or a couple of tickets to a ball game. For other families, this represents a more significant purchase, but our seniors’ parents tell us again and again, this is an investment they’re happy to make.
As one senior’s mom told us, “I spent a few more dollars than I told my husband, but the images of Emily hanging in our front room are PRICELESS!” In her case, she purchased canvases of her daughter Emily that made her remember how much joy her daughter brought her, and when Emily left home for college, those images were all Sarah had in between phone calls.
So those are the ranges. Check out the letters from parents in our "What Your Friends Say" section to hear more from other past clients.
I’ve walked past John’s portraits every day for five years now, and each time I walk past, I stop and stare at my son.
I don’t know how you captured the expressions of him that I could never once photograph in 18 years of living with him, but those images of John you made are the real him.

Our Guarantee
You will love your senior portraits at Focus Photography, or we will completely refund your session fee, and give you our favorite image as a gift for your time.
…I wanted an upbeat image of Chase, but he's anything but natural aroud a camera - at least when anyone but Will is taking his picture. I was worried that all the images would be of him sulking, looking moody, or that he'd leave 5 minutes after arriving.
Lucia told me - 'just get him there, and Will can take care of the rest'. I took a chance, knowing that if i didn't love the images, you had a guarantee, but there was no chance once I saw the slideshow that i could possibly have been happier with Chase's images!

Step By Step
- Choose Your Sessions
(see the next section for more info). Most students choose at least one indoor and one outdoor session for their senior photoshoot.
- Grab a calendar and mom's credit card (or just have your mom call us). Even if you're not planning on being photographed this month, the sooner you schedule your appointment the better your appointment time will be (and the better your signing bonus is!)
- We'll send you a guide to help you get ready for your senior portraits. Our senior guide covers everything from what to wear and bring, to where to park, to makeup tips. We've thought of everything, so you don't have to.
- Relax. The most important task of the summer - getting a good appointment time at Focus for your senior photoshoot - is done!
